Tree planting update!

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to your loyal support, the total number of trees Duffle&Co has now planted is a whopping 32,613 trees! *As of 10th November, 2020.

We are also pretty stoked to let you know that from this tree planting, the total number of workdays provided by us to Eden Reforestation Projects (our tree planting partner) to date is 378. These valuable workdays employ locals on Biak Island to plant, maintain and protect the trees that we plant.

Wondering why we choose to plant mangrove trees?

Mangrove trees are magical. Their roots reduce soil erosion, and provide breeding grounds and safe nurseries for schooling fish. In turn, this reduces the effects of flooding. Mangrove trees are also amazing carbon dioxide suckers! Mangrove forests can store twice as much carbon on a per-area basis as salt marshes. During normal growth, mangroves rapidly convert carbon dioxide into biomass, and store this material in the soil.

As global warming increases the temperature of the world we know, you'd have thought that trees such as mangroves would be planted everywhere! However, Indonesia continues to lose 6.2 million acres of forest habitat a year, and in the last 3 decades, has lost over 40% of its mangrove forests. This has affected not only the environment and the species that rely on them but also the communities that depend on this ecosystem for survival. And just in case you didn't know, Bali (situated in Indonesia) is where our little family run workshop is! So it only makes sense to protect the area around our little island and family of craftsmen.
